Joel and I both grew up in Chicago and lived there until 1985. Growing up in the "land locked" midwest, going to the beach meant taking the bus to the city beaches on Lake Michigan. When we moved to the Virginia in '85, and began taking vacations to the ocean, we soon discovered what being at the beach was all about. We were hooked. When our son was drafted by the Atlanta Braves and moved up to play for the Pelicans in 2003, we began taking more trips to Myrtle Beach. He used to tell us that when the guys from his team got moved up to AA ball, and had to leave Myrtle Beach for a higher level of baseball, that they were disappointed to have to leave the Grand Strand. After many visits to watch him play ball during his season there, we grew to understand the attraction. Not only could we have the beach, but there were about a bizillion golf courses to play on too!! When we were lucky enough to have the opportunity to purchase a second home the decision was a "no brainer" as to where to look. The combination of golf and the beach - our two favorite pastimes - were right here in Myrtle Beach!
We chose Myrtlewood because of the convenience of the location, and well, basically we just fell in love with the condo when we first laid eyes on it. The main living area is massive. The builder did a great job with attention to details. 9 foot ceilings, and crown moulding and chair-rails in the main living area give the place a finished and classy look. Ceiling fans in the living room and every bedroom, and the flat top cooking surface on the stove, were just a few of the features we loved. We had a great time decorating the condo. We wanted the colors to be bright and cheerful. We tried to make it something different than you may have in your "everyday" house, and something that made us feel like we are really on vacation at the beach. Since golf is a passion of ours, and the condo is on a golf community, we felt compelled to make at least one room the "golf room".
I had a graphic design business for many years and also have a passion for photography. Much of the art in the condo is my own work. If after visiting the condo, you would like to own one of these pieces, it certainly can be arranged.
We have decided to "self-manage" the condo instead of turning it over to a rental agency for a number of reasons. Most importantly, we feel that by renting it to you ourselves, we can be in closer touch with your needs and what makes a great vacation place. We hope to attract the discriminating vacationer, that appreciates the little things we have tried to do to make you feel like you are really on vacation. It is different from your average vacation rental place. We pride ourselves in that. We know it is somewhere that we love going to. We hope you do also, and we always appreciate feedback from our guests.
We hope in the long run we hope that you not only become our renters but our friends, and look forward to your visits here year after year.
